||Name: Deena Maggs
Job title: Head of Information Services
Organisation: King's Fund
What do you like most about your role as an information professional?
I love learning and helping people. At The King's Fund we deal with a range of enquiries and it is always good to be challenged and l think I learn something new every day.
Why did you choose to become an information professional?
I didn't really choose the career, it was more that it chose me! From the age of 11 I helped in the school library. I did enjoy helping out but never saw it as a potential career and was wary of the typical librarian stereotype. However after my first degree I soon realised being an information professional was something I could be good at so went back to my school librarian and asked if she would give me a reference which lead on to my first post as a graduate trainee at the University of Bath.
Who or what has influenced you in your career?
Probably my school librarian - she saw my potential as an information professional when I was 17 and wanted me to do librarianship for my undergraduate degree but I was adamant I wasn't going to work in libraries then. Without her reference and support in getting my first post I might not be where I am now.
