Meetings

CHILL holds three meetings a year for all members to attend.  Meetings rotate between different members' premises, providing opportunities to visit a variety of libraries.  Most meetings include one or more speakers on topics of interest.  Recent meetings have addressed constructing intranets, marketing library services, copyright, the work of the London Libraries Development Agency, NELH, and the NHS University.  These regular meetings also provide a valuable way to meet colleagues and CHILL members value this exchange of professional expertise very highly.

Training

Additional training events for members have been arranged on subjects as diverse as MARC cataloguing,  the Cochrane Library and measuring your library's impact.

Serials Consortium

A successful Serials Consortium has been set up which has about 25 members.  This has resulted in cost savings for members.  Members can also take advantage of a consortium for book purchasing, giving discount on most purchases.

Discussion list

A closed email discussion list provides a valuable communication tool between CHILL members.

Responses

CHILL has links with other bodies and makes representations when appropriate on behalf of its members.  Responses have been made to:

  • the CILIP Health Libraries Group manifesto
  • Helicon
  • the HE/NHS Forum's "Users First" report
  • the British Library's "Full Disclosure" consultation
  • Resource's WILIP (Wider Information and Library Issues Project) consultation

Promoting the Independent Health Libraries sector

CHILL is keen to make the wider LIS community aware of the valuable contribution that the Independent Heath Libraries sector makes.

Social events

Social events ("CHILL-out") are also arranged.
